Prevent Disease from Progressing With These Five Routine Checks

It is very important for you to see your doctor regularly even if you are feeling well. Serious diseases are a lot easier to treat if they are detected early. Below are five of the important health screenings that you may need to get:

Blood Pressure Screening:

High blood pressure is often called the silent killer. Many people who have it do not even know that they have it because they feel fine. High blood pressure causes the heart to work harder, and it can put you at risk for developing heart disease. If you have normal blood pressure, then you probably only need to get it checked once a year. People who have prehypertension or hypertension will need to get their blood pressure checked more often. Treatment is required for hypertensive patients.

Diabetes Screening:

Type 2 diabetes is another disease that many people have but do not know it. If type 2 diabetes is left untreated, then it can lead to numerous complications, such as neuropathy, blindness and heart disease. A diabetes screening is recommended at least once every three years for people who are over the age of 45. People who are at an increased risk for diabetes need to get screened earlier. They will also need more frequent screenings.

Cancer Screening:

Cancer is a condition that affects approximately 40 percent of the population. In the past, it was a death sentence. Today, it can be successfully treated if it is detected early. In fact, cancer survival rates are increasing. That is why regular cancer screenings are important. You will be referred to a cancer care treatment center if you are diagnosed.

Cholesterol Screening:

High cholesterol is another problem that puts you at risk for developing heart disease. Cholesterol screenings are recommended at least once every five years for people who are over the age of 20. If you have high cholesterol, then you will need to be screened more often.

Osteoporosis Screening:

Osteoporosis is a condition that causes the bones to become weak and brittle. This condition can put a person at risk for fracturing a bone. All post-menopausal women should be screened for osteoporosis. Osteoporosis screenings are recommended for men between the ages of 50 and 75.

Regular health checks are important. Blood pressure screenings, cancer screenings, diabetes screenings, cholesterol screenings and osteoporosis screenings are examples of some of the routine checks that people need to get.
